Reflections XVIII
I asked Diane to stand behind our porch door. I was struck by the branches appearing to “grow from” Diane’s body. As I looked at this beautiful image I felt it needed something to ground it.

I asked Diane to hold the edge of the door with her right hand. For me, it gave an inside/outside quality. When she completed that gesture, I knew the composition came fully together.
I’ve been told by a woman who purchased this photograph that it encompassed the aging experience in this culture. She put the photograph on the front door to her office. At that time she was working with the elderly in her community. She felt this image dignified the aging process.

I like this image a lot. It took me a while to see Diane’s face. First the hand limbs, then the tree limbs. I agree about the inside/outside quality, as well as the connection of a tree to the door. Wood to wood. I love the connection of body to tree as well. It is a personal symbolism for me. Since this is 18th in a series, I am wondering if you have other images of this door and tree? I would enjoy seeing more of them.

I really like the tree and the face together!
