Woman with Plants – Your Thoughts…

Posted on February 28, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

Today has been a long day and I thought before I retire I wanted to share this photo I took a few years ago.

A neighbor of mine had a small greenhouse in the back of her home. She wanted to show me her beautiful plants. I followed her as she walked to the back of her house. There, resting on the lawn was this quaint greenhouse. I was very impressed. She went inside and I decided to photograph her while she was pruning her plants. I loved the way the glass muted her face.

Please let me know your response to Woman with Plants – I’ll be looking forward to your comments. Thank you so much for coming by today.

Still Hoping…

Posted on February 26, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

Water Trees IIStill hoping to photograph the amazing diamonds hanging from the branches that I saw last week. It’s been quite warm recently, but I heard snow is coming on Sunday. Perhaps that maybe another opportunity to photograph the jewels again.

Tomorrow I have another photo shoot of the mayoral candidate. I’m looking forward to creating interesting images. Tonight I’m quite tired after a long day of putting numbers together for record keeping of my photography business.

I’m so delighted you came by – I always look forward to hearing from you. Please leave a comment if you wish. Good night.

Have a Photo Shoot, tonight.

Posted on February 25, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

A candidate for public office where I live asked me to take several photographs for a brochure that’s being printed soon. Tonight has been chosen because there will be a group of people gathered with the candidate. I was told group shots were needed as well as a portrait of him with his family.

I’m looking forward to this shoot – it’s always challenging to create photographs of people in their natural environments.  On-location portraits presents its own set of issues as opposed to studio photography. The lighting is trickier in that you don’t know what you’re walking into. The ambient light vs. flash.  I enjoy its challenges and will let you know how things went.

I wasn’t able to photograph the magnificent diamonds growing from the branches of trees in my area. I hope there will be another opportunity.

Thank you for dropping by.

Below is The Canal I,  that caught my eyes bathing in this wonderful haunting reflection of a factory building nestled at the edge of a small town. The quality of light reflecting on water creates a mystery within this factory’s lit windows.  There are many stories that lie within its walls. ,

Diamonds on Tree Branches

Posted on February 24, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

A wet, heavy snow fell on the landscape of the town I live in. Within moments it transformed our town into, again, a magical winter wonderland. It was very cold and has been since the snow fell.  As I drive through the streets I have noticed sparkles of ice nuggets dangling from the tiny barren branches. In a particular angle of view – when the sun is behind – the frozen ice nuggets sparkle brilliantly that give the illusion of diamonds resting on the fragile looking branches.  It’s so glorious to see.  I will go out tomorrow and photograph this beautiful moment while the air is still very cold. Nearing the end of the week, the temperatures will be warmer – I don’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to photograph these magnificent jewels. I will post a photograph to share with you.

While you’re waiting to see the diamonds, I’ve chosen this tile with my photograph of the Gray Barn.

Posted on February 20, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

I’ve been pretty busy with doing some things that needed catching up on – little everyday stuff.  Now my work week has begun so not much photographing this week. I’m planning to do so at the end of the week.night-sky-i-large-mug

Lovely Snow Landscape Filled the Valley

Posted on February 19, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

Our area of Massachusetts was blanketed with a magical layer of heavy, wet snow.  I love getting into my car and driving along the farm roads in the towns near where I live.

Did take my camera along, took some images  – so amazing to me the glorious change snow creates.  I spent around two hours driving all over watching the snow cover all that it touches.  For me, the best time to photograph is during the snow storm – that’s my favorite time to go out.

Someone once told me that whatever season you were born in – tends to be your favorite time of year.  My birthday is in December and actually Winter is my favorite season. Does that statement ring true for you?  I’d be interested in your response.

Thanks for dropping by.

Shimmering Barn.   A blue lagoon lay still as a sleeping barn reflects itself unknowingly.  The barn’s reflection beckons you to ponder its point of view.

Glad to be back with all of you!

Posted on February 11, 2009 by Susan ElkinApril 23, 2013

I know I’ve been missing for a loooooong time in blog writing action – I apologize – there’s been a lot going on. My twin brother has been very ill from complications with his brittle diabetes.  My 97 year old mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She did have surgery and it was a success.  There was much to attend to in helping them with the dailiness of living.

The ususal appointments to go to, shopping , cleaning and since I live nearly 3 hours drive, each way, and work at my regular job and focus expanding my photography business.  All that I had to do didn’t leave me with “free time” to attend to writing my blog.

Another impending medical occurrence is that I will need hip and knee replacement surgery sometime this year. I have an appointment with the surgeon in March to discuss which part will be operated on first.  I’m hoping this will happen very early May.  There is a long recuperation period and I would prefer that the surgery does not happen during the winter months.  All around, it would be far easier to recuperate from limb surgery during spring and summer.

I’ve had both my shoulders operated on and I can tell you from experience that life is harder all around during the winter months.

Eventually, I will be the bionic woman – both knees and hips will ultimately be replaced.

In all of this I’ve had to adjust how to continue to build my photography business that I love doing because my body is changing dramatically and I need to change how I am doing things.

I’m just wanting to explain to you my absence from keeping up with my posts.  Well, now, today I’ve jumped into bringing my shops more up-to-date.  I’ve loaded up additional images for selling.

I would love to sell my large framed images – 11×14″ framed work and the only way that can happen is by displaying their availability in my various shops – etsy shop, zazzle and design style guide.  My biggest selling photographs are now in those shops.  Hope you stop by and take a look.

You can really use this postage in the United States.  This has my image on it.

I do hope you visit my zazzle shop.  Thank you for coming by.  See you tomorrow with another post.
